C.A.R.E. is primarily based at Marine Way Animal Hospital, Plettenberg Bay. C.A.R.E. also offers mobile services in Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Sedgefield, Wilderness, and George. How do I know if my pet needs physiotherapy?

All pets can benefit from physiotherapy, but there are certain signs to watch for that may indicate pain or discomfort. Please note that these symptoms should be considered as potential indicators of pain only after your vet has ruled out any systemic health issues. These include:

  • Difficulty getting up

  • Stiffness after lying down

  • Preferring to sit or lie on one side

  • Persistent panting,

  • Hesitation to jump on or off furniture or into a car

  • Yelping

  • Limping

  • Scuffing a leg

  • Reluctance to engage in activities

  • A hunched posture

  • Localized shaking or trembling

  • Excessive licking or scratching of a specific area.

May I be present during the sessions?

Yes, owner presence is encouraged, especially during the initial assessment. Your involvement provides valuable insight and helps establish accurate goals and treatment plans. Pets are often more comfortable and cooperative with their owners present, as it eases their nervousness in an unfamiliar environment. Additionally, being present allows you to actively participate in and learn from your pet’s rehabilitation journey. In some cases, pets may be more focused and cooperative without their owners in the room; in these situations, you may be asked to step out temporarily.

Which species do you work with?

C.A.R.E. specializes in physiotherapy for small animals, primarily dogs, and cats. However, services are not limited to small animals. C.A.R.E. also offers treatments for horses and exotic animals, adapting each session to meet the unique needs of these species.
